Pepperoni pizza, ham and mushroom pizza or meat feast pizza are popular savory pizzas but did you also know that pizza could be served as a dessert?
Dessert pizzas make a change from desserts that are more traditional and they are delicious for kids and adults alike. A dessert pizza can be made with a cookie dough base or another type of sweetened pizza crust and popular toppings include fruit, chocolate, candies and more.
Types of Dessert Pizza Recipes
You can create a healthy dessert pizza by making a whole-wheat crust and topping it with a selection of fresh fruit and berries. Serve yogurt or low fat ice cream on the side and you have a delectable dessert, which tastes sinful but is low in calories and fat. If you do not have a sweet tooth, you can use an unsweetened pizza crust and top it with fruit and cream cheese.
An unusual dessert pizza can be made by topping your pizza crust with mozzarella or cheddar cheese and adding grapes or berries. Cheese and fruit go together nicely and baking the pizza so you have melted cheese with fruit actually makes a really nice dessert for people who prefer savory desserts or, at least, not overly sweet ones.
If you prefer, you can make the complete opposite, use a thick and sweet dough, and top your dessert pizza with lots of chocolate chips, chopped walnuts or pecans and marshmallows, as well as the fruit. Serve it with ice cream or whipped cream. Caramel or chocolate ice cream syrup drizzled liberally over the top is a good idea too.
